Children & Family

Photographing children and families is a joyous thing for me but can also be a tricky one.  "My technique" is to engage the children so that they want to participate and I also try to "follow the child" to get the most candid and real picture that I can. I love to chat with the kids, ask them questions and capture their smiles right as they answer or share something funny. I like to think of my children's photography as candid poses... I encourage the children to be in a certain light or stand on a particular rock but let them do as they choose from there.

When it comes to photographing families I prefer to capture them hanging out and just being together.  I often will say "pretend I am not here".  What's better than a picture of parents and kids laughing and smiling at one another!?
